To lock a layer, first, select the layer in the Layers panel. Then click the Lock Layer button (the padlock icon) on the toolbar. The layer will be locked and you will not be able to change its contents.

To alpha lock, a layer, go to the Layer menu and select Alpha Lock.

One way to make a layer inactive in GIMP is to select the layer and choose “Disable Layer” from the Layers menu.

To keep an image from moving in GIMP, you can use the Image Stabilization feature. To do so, click on the Image Stabilization tab in the Toolbar and select one of the options from the Stabilization menu.

When a layer is locked, the lock icon will be displayed on the side of the layer that is currently selected in the Layers panel.

The easiest way to lock layers is to right-click on the layer and select “Lock Layer.

Lock pixels are used to prevent accidental changes to a photo. When you select a lock pixel, GIMP will not allow you to make any changes to the image until you unlock the pixel.

A layer mask is a masking tool in Photoshop or GIMP that allows you to selectively hide parts of an image.

A floating selection is a tool in the GIMP that allows you to select a portion of an image without having to select the entire image.

Floating selections are caused by a bug in GIMP. To get rid of them, open the preferences dialog (Window > Preferences), and under the Editing tab, disable “Enable floating selections.
