You may not be able to remove as many files as you want all at once because Dropbox restricts the number of files that can be removed at one time. You won’t be able to permanently delete anything from a shared folder unless it’s content you created and immediately deleted. To make space, permanent deletion of files is necessary.

Dropbox only deletes files that aren’t accessed for a long period of time. To remove files from Dropbox without removing them from your hard drive, make a copy of the file and move it outside of the local Dropbox account.

Deleting a Dropbox file on your Mac or PC is identical to deleting any other file. Simply open the synced Dropbox folder on your desktop and remove the file you wish to get rid of. You have the option of removing it “everywhere” or just from your computer.

Navigate to your Dropbox and log in. Select the file by clicking on it once. A menu called Download will pop up above the file list. Choose Save to Your Computer or Network Drive from the drop-down menu that appears when you click on a file.

Select the folder you wish to download. Click “Download” in the upper right corner. Your browser will ask if you’d want to save it.
