That’s funny. My current opinion regarding smartphones or tablets… they’re really great. However, one of their biggest failings in my mind is that you can’t set them up the same as your computer — and an IMAP based email client like gmail does exactly what you asked about. With gmail (and most IMAP based clients), you choose your own primary (“From” ) email address, and then specify your phone number as a secondary address (along with an email address on the SMTP server if you like). The messages sent to that primary account are then dumped into the IMAP folder for that account and synced.

However, iOS doesn’t support exchange or IMAP based tasks… it only supports POP based tasks. And ebay is one of those annoying vendors who insists on acting like POP is the only option rather than simply supporting multiple protocols for use in different situations/environments. If only they embraced standards!

So I agree with you, mobile devices need more options when it comes to choosing which primary “From” address gets used. Just since they don’t have keyboard shortcuts on them doesn’t mean they can’t do what other clients can.

When you sign into eBay, type the seller’s email address into the Search your sellers link.

The other options under this tab are subheaders such as Receiving, Purchasing, and Selling with a checkbox next to each one that says Turn On/Off email notifications box checked.
