A couple weeks ago epic decided to update their epic launcher without telling anyone in advance and I’m sure everyone who used epic launcher were surprised that epic changed the epic account linking process from a simple log in method to a link a phone number with an epic games account process. So my advice is for all of those users who have been using epic launcher prior to this change make sure you UNLINK your epic accounts before they force more people into unlinking phones or else you’ll be forced wait until epic decides they want to unlink your phone too!
In epic launcher whenever you tried to log in epic would always ask for epic games account, epic never asked for a phone number or email, and epic did not let you login without doing this epic games account linking process. Well after epic changed their epic account unlinking policy users have come across issues with this “unlink your epic games account” process.
You see if epic wants to unlink a phone they force users to submit an unlink request form only problem is that epic requires the user has access to that linked email address or else they won’t accept any requests from users, which means users who don’t have access to that linked email are forced into entering their epic games forum password associated with their epic account into a special link found in epic launcher which epic will then send a verification code to the linked phone that epic is trying to unlink and epic claims this security process prevents hackers from taking over epic games users epic accounts. But seeing how epic only allows phone number linking with epic account and epic doesn’t use any security for “unlinking” an epic account through a cell phone it’s safe to say epic has no clue what they’re doing.
So epic games account has changed again if epic wants to change epic account linking methods in the future I recommend epic never link phone numbers or emails with an epic account. Reply Delete
